The Way of Relic :
Shell-Pink Fender Standard Strat Project

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part-1: Polyurethane matt finish
Okay, I bought a MIM Standard Strat for a relic project.
You mean you bought an another cheap guitar?
Didn't you buy a Squier '51 before?
......
......................................................
Anyway, let's try making a matt finish body
before I strip it to the law wood. It's just an
experiment.
Oh, you're gonna make this shiny guitar look like
those satin finish guitars at the music store?
No no no, matt is duller than satin finish.
Maybe you need to understand the concept of this project.
okay
When I was a high schooler,
ah hum..
a friend of mine bought a Japanese Strat..
yeah..
..which was a matt 2-tone burst.
And you really liked his guitar, didn't you?
Noooo!!.
The thing is, his sister was so BEAUTIFUL!!
.......................

I used #2000 and #2400 papers.
At first I thought that was good enough, but I could see many fine scratches under the certain light's angle.

Fig.1

So I went further with #2400 and #3200 plus some polishing compound.
It will be shiny again if I do this too much.

Fig.2

Much better than Fig1 but it seems impossible to
remove all scratches with this method.
(maybe I need a sandblaster?)

Anyway, here is the 3-tone burst matt finish.
Although I can't say this is a professional work,
but it's not too bad for an easy weekend project.

this guitar is nice to touch. very smooth!

so what happened to the beautiful sister...?

nothing !?  what a loser...
