The Way of Relic

Squier Vintage Modified SSS Strat

Part-3: Ready for finish

Yeah man! I finally got the laminate off.

Oh, I thought this was a 7 piece but this turns out to be a 3 piece?
Yeah, Agathis is inexpensive so they can build it as a 3 piece and still be cost effective. This wood has rather an ugly grain texture so most people would want to cover it up with paint or laminate, but comparing it to Basswood, it looks more like Alder so I think I can live with it.
Ah, excuse me, but this Agathis-chan probably would not appreciate being called "ugly" or having "ugly grain". And it won't make him feel better by saying it comes close to the beauty of Alder wood.
Hmm... You do have a good point there.
A wood artist that I know said something similar. He said that we should have respect and gratitude to nature and living things. So it's important to have such intentions when building guitars. So I apologize for the insensitive comment about this Agathis.
Nah, it's ok. As long as you understand
But...
you are right, this Agathis is so UGLY. Maybe you should chuck it out?
Hey, now you sound like a hypocrite!
Anyway, let's put the grain issue aside because the most important issue is that the guitar is made of 3 wood pieces but one of the wood colors is a lot darker than the other 2 pieces.
But wouldn't it not matter because you will paint over it?
What are you talking about? I decided to paint it in burst color!
What? Why!?
The only reason I couldn't do it in Burst finish is because there was laminate on it.
I spent 10 hours removing the laminate so I would like to get some kind of reward from the long hours of work.
But you said the grain is ugly and the colors of the wood don't exactly match.
Hehehe, you don't quite get it.
To pursue the Way of Relic, having the ability to see beauty in the ugliness is vital. If you can not see the beauty in certain aspects of ugliness, then you fail as a relicer.
(But the goal of the Way of Relic is to make dirty guitars, isn't it?
I think he is already failing as a human being.)
